Edition no.7

Hello ORLÉANS!
Welcome to the 7th edition of Orléans Connect.
It sure is starting to feel like maybe it’s time to dust off that BBQ 🍗 and dare I say it… begin to dream of spring and summer nights amidst good food, good drinks and great company in the old back yard?
While we dream of sunnier ☀️ days ahead, we unfortunately still have to get through some 🌧️ rainy weather as we finish off the month of April.
This week we voted 🗳️in the advance polls for the federal election and we were happy to see how many people were engaging in the democratic process. Elections Canada reported a record turnout for early voting with over 7.3 million Canadians already voting, a 25% increase over the 2021 federal election!
This week we’re debuting our new, and much-anticipated section… 🐱 “Pets of Orléans” 🐶. Scroll down to see our first featured local pet. Thank you to everyone who has already sent in photos of their fur babies, watch for your pets to be featured in the coming weeks. And if you haven’t yet… you can submit a photo of your Orléans pet(s) by emailing it to: [email protected] and make sure to include the name of your pet(s).
🥐 Finally, this week, we’ve got our 3rd 🍞 Orléans Food Spot 🍪 review (though we cheated a bit with the location) so make sure to give that a read below. ⬇️

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT 🔦
This week’s Orléans business spotlight is…. 🥁 …. BLACK WALNUT BAKERY - Located at 979 Cameron Street in Cumberland. Yes, it’s technically not in Orléans, but we love this place so much we definitely wanted to tell you about it.
This bakery boasts an incredible selection of breads, pastries, pies, soups and more! Black Walnut is a locally-owned family-business that recently went through a major upgrade and renovation while continuing to be popular among locals.
We visited Black Walnut last weekend and it’s the subject of our third Orléans Food Spot Review which you can read here. 🔗
If you haven’t discovered this bakery yet, make sure to drop by for a visit and tell them Orléans Connect sent you.

By the 1950’s St-Joseph Boulevard became a major road, with storefronts and restaurants popping the entire length of the street. The first major real-estate development, Queenswood Heights, started construction in 1958.

To get this new section started, we couldn’t resist sharing that recently we adopted two kittens from local rescue Community Alley Trappers. 🐈 Here’s the first … meet Cooper. “Coop” as we’ve already started to call him is an energetic and friendly 3-month old boy. His favourite activities naturally include playing with toys, sleeping and chasing his sister Nova around the house! 🐈⬛
